Casting Workshop VI
3D modelling a joint piece for a lantern with 20 pieces in collaboration with the rest of the studio.
We had a template with three predetermined joins forming a triangle-ish-thing and then each of us in the studio are making a uniqe piece filling the void between the joins.
I've used rhino to model this piece and then imported it to Cura so that it can be build by the UltiMaker-3d-printer. I wanted to split the joins and make it braid and knit into each other to get a little bit of the same feel as a doilie or a woven textile seen really close up. After finishing it in rhino I see now that it looks more robotic and a little bit similar to something from the Matrix...
The printing material is some kind of cornstarck so that it is biodegradable (yay!), but the pigments that's in it i'm not sure is so natural (bubblegum blue, silver, ivory and glittery green). Oh, and apperently it smells like burned sugar when you 3d-print :P
