Casting Workshop V
Today we printed the 3d models and prepared them for casting!
The machine prints a raft and a support structure when it's printing the piece.
Up close it is kind of fascinating how these thin threads van support the structure. In a way the support structure looks more like my granny's doilies than my final print...
There is an interesting tension between the smoothness and clear form and the seemingly random roughness in the support
The print with the support peeled off.
The pattern and texture the 3d printer makes i kind of beautiful. I am happy that it is not just a totally smooth surface. I hope the casting in bronze will have some of this kind of imprints
The bottom of the print is more rough and looks almost like a knitted surface. Or the same kind og texture a spider makes when it wraps a fly in it's web.
Here the print is ready for the cast with plenty of air ventils and a thick pouring pipe.
Hopefully we will be able to cast it in bronze tomorrow!
